Nick in Makete.

Before Nick went he got his first proposal from a pastor in Dumila Morrogoro. He wrote a porposal for a well to be put in his little town. It was well written, well researched and its the fruit of Nicks training! We were excited. :)
Makete is 800 Km away. It is up in the mountains. A long time ago they named Makete after something they grew to produce an alchoholic drink in that area. Not that that is interesting to any of you but I love the stories from here of how places come to get their name. There is a place in Zanzibar that is named...Bububu because that was the sound that the train made when it went through the area. So the town was named the sound that the train made! little things like that are just neat to know. Do you know where your towns name comes from?
Anyway, Nick had a great trip. He got to visit one of our pastor's, Kipukapuka. (No joke, cool name. sounds like a chief huh?!) This last summer we had a team to Makete build chicken coops and now they are building them everywhere. Nick visited this one lady who's house fell down. She is handicapped but a lady in the church wanted to help her rebuild her house so they once again reached out to thier community to help this lady. Its all about community.
It can get really cold up there and Pastor said it even snowed in July. But the weather was nice and cool for their trip, great change from the heat we are feeling here in Dar. The trip was short and long! lol They were gone for 4 days but 24 hours of it was driving. When they stopped they played a game of bache ball on the side of the road. It was great that Steven and Paul wanted to go with him, they too wanted a change from Dar. I think they had a good time aswell.
This area is tough, because a long time ago a 'prophet' came through and did miracles and changed dirt into flour for bread, healed people but then he disappeared. They still pray to him and call him the messiah. Please pray for this area, they have the joy of the Lord and are on fire about reaching out to those around them. For the Lord to give them favor.

The mountain tops of Makete.

Steven and Paul. It's a good thing Nick knew his way around. he he he.

Pastor Kipukapuka. Even the butterflies like him! :0)

The handicapped lady with the woman who is helping her build her a new house with bricks. The sticks are her old home that fell down.

The chicken coops, the village children and the peaches that they are growing there.
