March-April 2010

Nick had many meetings the first week. He had a trip to Dadoma another week. The third week I had SEW- Service Emphasis Week. It was really great to be apart of SEW. There were 17 teams from HOPAC (the kids school) from secondary that each had a different type of ministry and then two leaders per group. I and Lori Larson were leading a group of 11 to Madale, Williams Nursrey school. We were able to be there for 4 days. Inbetween there was a swimming gala I had to take my primary team to. It was a busy week and Nick helped out a bunch with the things at home. He even did the laundry, which is so complicated in Africa (nothing ever works like it is suppose too). I am the only one who does it, its been like that for years now! Now that I know he can do it I just might let him do it more often! ;) Our house helper's mom died :( She was gone for a few weeks to Iringa. But that also made everything a little more stressful with me not being home. Pray for Flora as she is grieving still.
My parents came in for a week from Kenya. We made a trip up to Iringa. It was a lot of driving but very nice to have them here with us. THANK YOU for coming!! We love you.

Our group of 11.

Our dala dala we rode in for 2 hours everyday. It didnt look so trustworthy but it did the job!

kanisa la Babtiste.

Saturday kids camp day.
We played games, the human knot, parachute, hulla hoops musical chairs, statues, all kinds.

Tug of War.

My Swahili came in handy when talking with the nursrey teacher. And thank goodness William knows English! He helped out so much. I was called AMANDA contantly. The kids all thought I was a lady who helps out on Saturdays there. Dont you know all white people look the same! :)

Many of the kids are not Christians. So we did a mixuture of everything with Prayer every morning and afternoon. The kids took great responsibility with planning things for the day. They did a great job stepping out. I think they really learnt something. I was really proud of how far they came in just a few days. They were touched while reaching out to others.

Our kids being big brothers and sisters.

When we wernt looking they had fun with the camera. ;)

Sweet sweet faces.

Half the team built a garden to plant spinich and chinesie is what it is called here. They hoed and planted, multched and watered. We prayed for the garden to be a blessing to the community.

They made lunch for us and the kids the last day! It was yummy. Beans and rice and Kachambari. Lori bought the kids all icecreams back at HOPAC as a treat because they all did so well.

The team infront of the school with the nursrey kids.

The team with thier dala dala they eventually liked riding in. :)

Swimming gala at IST primary's new pool. It was fun. The kids did well. Waiting on having their times. This was Ethans first swim gala. I was so tired at the end of this day, we got home at 730.

IRINGA

Mom and Dad came down we taught then ditch the queen and had spagetti for dinner. We had a day at home then left the next day. It was scrunchy in the car but not bad. We stayed at Riverside camp where our friends are now the new managers. Joy and Steve. We went for a hike to the river then had dinner and played ditch the queen for the rest of the evening.

Mom and Dad on the hike.

Steve and Joy.
We left the next day up into Iringa. Took Nick to Ebineezer school and showed mom and dad Iringa. Dad picked Nick up and we headed out to Kisolanza after lunch.

At the school Nick set the foundation with them for income generating projects using local resources.

KISOLANZA

We have always loved Kisolanza with its challets, fireplaces and Eucloluptus trees. When we got there for tea time and then we went for another walk to the Lake there. It was nice but not nice enough to swim in.

Shosho walked accross the stream and made it without falling :) Babu found his marshmello stick. But used it to walk with. Proud of them for keeping up with us like they did.
The next day Nick went up to Luwagos church and helped clear land getting a farmers tan in the process. :0 ( poor guy was in pain. They are going to plant Cassius. Nick also gave them a whole bag of bricketts for fire wood and if they like them he will teach them how to make them out of recycled paper and leaves. Instead of using charcoal.

The next day we got up and got back into the car. A lot of driving! We went straight to Dar and bought groceries and ate at Chinese. The best Chinese in Dar at the Tangren Garden, cheap too. Mom the chinese expert even liked it! If only they treated us non chinese people better.

Lexxi and Ethan at Kisolanza.
We had an easy day here at home the following day We went to the beach in the evening for a while, then had an easy Hamburger meal. Mom and dad drove back home to Mombasa Friday. It was really nice to have them, even though it was a tight trip we did get to spend quiet a few hours in close quarters (the car). Babu enjoyed his little human back massage walker just like when Krista and I were kids! They will probably never make this journey again, not to Dar anyhow. Next time Arusha! :)
