We left in the morning to Karatu. We got there around 11 and got a quick bite to eat from a little duka. We had chapaties and chicken soup. Then we headed out on a really bad road on our way to Gilimilanda.

We stopped for a little while on the way so the kids could climb the rocks.

The river bed from up.

A big hole in the top of a boulder.

Hmm. Me. Well the kids were so busy having so much fun. I decided they didnt need me so I tried crossing a DRY sandy area. I took two steps and sank to my knees. It all happened so fast. I threw myself to a rock and screamed for Nick. I got out but very scared. I was sinking. Anyway the kids thought it was pretty funny. I got so dirty, Gold flecks all over me.

On my way to the car I walked by this skin which I thought was a real snake and it just made me jump off the rock. One more thing the kids mocked me for. lol Anway I got to the car and had to clean myself off with Mosi repellent and a dry wet wipe! lol The drinking water was just way to valuable to use! After that I left my shoes there in the sun to dry but forgot about them until we were a few mins down the road. We had to back track. :( If it was easy to get good flipflops here I would have just left them to bless some cow/goat hearder. So ya, we went back. It was just not my day.

The light blue sliver... but more to the left. Thats where we were going.

We got there and got to see Dolphi, Tiffany and Michael. Nick set up the tent and I made dinner for everyone. A camping meal we do when we are out in the bush and only have one pot. It was tasty. The bucket shower felt good and the stars were just so close. It was truely beautiful. Here is us in the tent. The kids and I went to bed around 9. Nick, Michael and Gil were out hunting with the Hadzabe. They walked about 10 km that night running everywhere. The did finally get a dik dik. It was a great great experience. Its dangerous there at night. There are lions around.

Well apart from the view of my husband in the morning... this was the view outside our tent. The church. :)

We went for a walk in the morning out onto the lake. It was hot but the guys and kids played Stickbee. Frisbee with sticks. You throw the frisbee and then aim your stick and try to hit it. Ya its pretty hard and rare to actually hit it! lol But they had fun trying.

Colors of the lake and its natural patterns.

I found this piece of wood that looks like an elephant to me. The eye and the trunk. Its going in the guest house. Abstract art for free. :)

Walking home.

Dolphi in her cowgirl boots. They were busy and had a lot of work to do to get ready for the guest that were coming to the party. We headed over to the party at two. John Bonjiourno brought out some guests to see the windmill that was bringing water out of the well. Joyce Myers son and his wife. They were nice. So it was a mix between thanking them for the well and showing them what they were apart of. Also the party was to celebrate the land that was given to the TAG.. 20 acres from the Datooga.

The windmill.

Ribs. Bet you never cooked them this way. :)

That hut is where all the cooking was. So many ladies helped in the preparation for the party.

They all wanted me to take a pictures of them cooking. lol so cute.

Shots throughout the day.

The Datooga.

Watching the dancing.

Hudzabe dancing.

They had a dance off with the Datooga.

The Datooga men sang by hiperventalating. The ladies jumped accross from them.

The Hudzabe are short and have a free style of dress. They have houses but sleep outside by the fire. Lexxi is learning about them right now in school so this was great for her to see this.

It Poured with rain!! Right before it was time to eat. So We used the speed the light car as a shelter. We put our tent flap on the end and people piled in. The blankets were used for the blowing rain.

This guy had some pretty awesome earrings. If I had holes like his I would want some like them!

We ate while it was raining on us. We were all so cold. great face Michael!
We ate and then had to leave to make it back to Karatu before dark. We drove infront to show where the road was. The guests followed us to the main road. We were literally driving in a river bed.

When it rains everything turns into the lake!

But thankfully it got dry again.

Right after the sun set. We drove in the dark for an hour until we reached Karatu. Quickly ate, showered and slept. I think the guesti was called happy days.

The next morning we got up at 6 am.We got the kids dressed for school and then drove an hour and a half to take them to school. Here they are sleeping the whole way there. They were there on time too! They were exhausted though and when we apologized to them for the trip they said that we shouldn't be sorry because they had so much fun. Such troopers! I love it.
