Zanzibar Medical Team

We left the Guesti in Dar early and bought our tickets when we got to the ferry at 7am. It was the Kilimanjaro II, Brand new. 2 hour ferry ride. We were invited to join the Chara organization who partners with our TAG churches. Ron and Carol McDonald have been friends for many years and they were hosting a team of nurses and asked if we would like to join, and of course we joyfully accepted!! : )

We were picked up by a friend and taken to the Coco De mere house. Our normal guest house was full but this one was in a great location. It was closer to the McDonalds apartment.

We took it easy when we got there. It had been a long drive the day before and early morning. We felt jet lagish!?! We stopped by to visit our friends at the Tembo and make a reservation for the last night of our stay.

From there we went to Amore Mio for lunch.

We all slept well even though we all shared beds. The next morning we met up with the team.

We had breakfast with Ron and Carol and then met the team and all piled in a dalla dalla headed to the North of the island to catch a boat to the Island of Tambatu.

The little kids we saw on the way. So adorable!

32 of us on the way to Tambatu, in a small little wooden boat.

In the front of the boat, Ethan was helping scoop out the water with a paint can and in the back the guy was using yogurt cups and trying to stuff wet wipes into the hole in the bottom of the boat. Yes what an adventure! lol

Tambatu is a forgotten Island, very seclusive. It is so hard to get permission to go there. However, the Lord has opened a door through Chara. These people are not allowed to leave the Isand without the Sheaha's permission, and the same for people who want to step foot there. Chara has much favor as they are bringing in hope through medical services. On the team we had nurses from all around the world, some students. 3 Cuban doctors and a team of Tanzanians that help Chara. It is a great opportunity, one we were so very blessed to be a part of.

At first while everyone was getting set up the kids and I were trying to play with the kids. They were so scared of us and were afraid to touch us. The old men of the island told our kids that they are now written into the history of Tambatu, as there has never been white children on the Island before. The other children stared with amazement and curiostiy as Lexi and Ethan were collecting shells.

Once we got started we were really busy. It was so much fun! I helped with regestration, We saw hundreds of people that day. Most of them were sick with Pneumonia. Lexxi and Ethan handed out toothbrushes and toothpaste to every single person and a toy car to each child. All donated things to Chara. Ron and Carol have been to the Island 2 previous times for this kind of ministry. They have great favor and a wonderful heart for the people.

Lexxi and Ethan were so tired. But I was so proud of them. They loved being able to help and play with all the kids.

Such beauty.

We left the island around 4. 37 of us on the way back. same boat with the holes.
It was ramadan so we had to eat in a little room without showing anyone. We had only brought with us some peanut butter and some chips so that night we were all very ready for dinner. :)

It was a great day. One day there will be greater opportunity for that little secluded Isand to hear the good news!

The next day the team was going to a Hospital in the south, were they were going to train the midwives on new techniques and give them birthing kits. We also got to walk through the ward and see the new born babies. There was a four pound baby, without an incubator. Its amazing the fight for life no matter the size! They were so cute.

The kids helped with the prep work. Filling bottles of colored red water to show how much too much blood lost was and also what is normal. (They learned a lot this day! lol No more little secrets, they now know they full process of life and now in a little more detail probably than most children! lol) They also helped Carol and Kiana with putting the gift bags together.

They got to try on the head lamps. We left there in the afternoon and on the way back stopped to see the monkeys.

Red Colobus monkey's. Lexxi stubbed her toe when walking through, but we had nothing to fear with a whole group of nurses! We lacked nothing. lol They bandaged her toe right up there on the road.

The really cool trees the monkeys were in.

Also the Mangrove tree forest. Nice wooden walkway. It was so peaceful there.

Driving back with the team.

We didnt join them for dinner this night, as we had one night left so we went to say our goodbyes to the new friends we had met. Tambra Chochran, Kiani Gullickson, Jennifer Pittman, Elise Fitzgerald, Mallary Bida, Tabitha Walter, Savannah Page, Camille Shoemaker, Farran Woolbright, Stephanie Hubbard and Ron & Carol McDonald.

A family photo.

That night we stayed at the Tembo apartments.

We have never stayed here before. Beautiful place! The kids were so excited there was cable, for the few hours they got to watch it. : )

Some of the older pictures in the hotel hallway.

Zanzibar Stonetown long ago.

The next morning we had breakfast at Tembo and then walked around for the morning, doing some shopping before we caught the ferry out.

Some of the stores and streets of StoneTown.

The kids and I got our Henna done in time for it to dry before the ferry. As you can see Nick was patiently waiting! ; )

The ferry back was so Caotic! However we got to Dar in time for lunch/dinner. Albasha lebanese, a resturant we crave in Arusha. Its one of our favs in Dar. Then Taxiéd back to the guesti. We had a wonderful time and so thankful to the Lord for providing us a way to be working on Zanzibar even though we don't live there. So excited that He is doing so much and changing peoples lives. There is Hope!!! : ) Thank you Ron and Carol for being so loving and sharing this opportunity with us! You blessed us in this partnership!
